There are symbols whose meanings reach far back into the past. The cover for the “Sokil” Combatant ID Card, created by the Turtle workshop, is based on one such image - a bird of prey diving rapidly downward to attack its prey. This symbol has a long history and holds special significance in Ukrainian military tradition.

The embossed design depicts a falcon in a dive. Specifically, it is a peregrine falcon, which, at the moment of attack, plunges rapidly downward. The image of this bird is associated with strength, speed, precision, and a sudden attack—qualities that are particularly valued in military affairs.

Interestingly, there is a hypothesis regarding the origin of the ancestral emblem of the rulers of Rus’—the two-pronged and three-pronged tridents of the Rurikids—as a stylized depiction of a falcon diving toward its prey. This version has not been definitively proven historically, but it lends the symbol special meaning: the image of a bird of prey could have been associated with authority, military might, and a swift strike.

The falcon symbol also has a place in Ukraine’s recent military history. A similar image was used by the “Donbas” battalion—a volunteer unit that actively participated in combat operations in 2014–2015. Thus, this ancient image has been given new life in the modern history of the Ukrainian military.

The cover is handcrafted from genuine Crazy Horse leather. The material has a distinctive matte texture and a vintage look; it is pleasant to the touch and well-suited for everyday use. Over time, the leather’s surface develops a natural patina, making each piece unique.

The falcon image is applied using a deep-embossing technique with a die and a press. The design is formed directly into the structure of the genuine leather, so the embossing remains distinct even after prolonged use.

Size and Internal Pockets
The size of the cover when folded is 8 × 10.5 cm, which corresponds to the format of a combatant’s ID card.

Two options for the cover’s interior pockets are available:
50 mm — the standard size, which allows you to easily insert and remove the certificate.
90 mm — the larger size, which holds the certificate more securely and provides better stability.
